September 75

4. Last night we received official news that Nakhon Phanom RTAFB will close 31 Oct 1975. Where the 40th will be relocated is still in the rumor factory. The Base Commander told of the closure on AFTN - he also gave us some real good news - we are "again" allow to send (ship) our Mamasan chairs home. ALL RIGHT!!

Vallimont walked over to CBPO yesterday to say (ed note: unreadable text) a "15" day rollback - it pays to go to CBPO.

6. The Squadron begins to pack; we are going PCS to Korat. The 40th again remains cool in the eye of the storm while the rest of the base is beginning to leap through their rectum. I wonder which will change first - Korat or the 40th. I believe Korat will have to adjust to us.

Vallimont had a good Sawadee Party Thursday night, sorry to see you go! We burned your bar stool in fond remembrance last night.

23. Found this book hidden away in a packing box.

The move from NKP to Korat has been completed. Our new Ops is huge - people have been missing for days inside.

Bounds built a snake cage for the FM's mascot - "Stretch" - their 14' python. (ed note: Unless something changed when I was there in '72 Stretch was the PJ's mascot. Stretch originally belonged to the 37th ARRS, DaNang, PJ's and was officially transferred to the 40th on 30 November 1972 when the 37th deactivated.)

Uncle Vern hoisted the Jolly Green Foot up the flag pole - we are making ourselves at home.

Our new combined 40th and 56th is almost a reality. It seems that the old King guys don't know where Ops is! Some come in for the morning shift - then go to lunch and are never seen again. Must be taking lessons from "Downtown" Doug.

The 40th took over the "O" Club Saturday night - we now own it. The F-4's and A-7's meekly left. We are sharing Spectres hootch bar. We have a running total on boosball game between Spectre and the Jollys. The score stands now at 56 games to "1". The one game being lost by Round Kurtz and make "Cold Towel" fargge. Practice Spectre. This job, as I understand it, is being taken over by "The Mole" - Bye

24. Continued moving in last week. Saturday 20 Sep sent Jolly 71 to Khon Kaen to recover crashed STOL used in cloud seeding - Cpt Blough AC, Lt Tiehart CP, Amn Canaran hookup man. Big reception by the Thai's - local & official.

28. Had Commander's Call at base theater. Presented Lt Brown and Lt Mason DFC's, CPt Buckley, Lt Sim Com Med for maint on USS Midway during Siagon evac and Maj Buckley, Cpt Yancy & Sgt Sharratt AF Commendiation Medals, Lt Siebert & Amn Canavan Sikorski Winged "S"'s. LtCol Woodward last Com Call - seemed to appreciate the green feet on the water tower (painted Friday night (26 Sep))
